The Lips of the Wise

“The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so. The sacrifice of the wicked wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness,” Proverbs 15: 7-9.

Verse 7 states, “The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.” The wise use their words to share knowledge, guidance and truth. Their speech is intentional, aimed at edifying and enlightening others. In contrast, the foolish fail to impart any valuable insight because their hearts lack wisdom. This verse encourages us to seek wisdom and understanding so that our words can positively impact those around us.

Verse 8 contrasts the sacrifices of the wicked with the prayers of the upright: “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.” God values the sincerity and righteousness of our hearts over empty rituals. The wicked may perform outward religious acts, but without true repentance, these acts are detestable to Him. However, the prayers of the upright, offered with genuine faith and humility, are pleasing to God.

Verse 9 reinforces the theme: “The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.” The overall conduct of the wicked is abhorrent to God, while those who pursue righteousness find His favor. This pursuit of righteousness encompasses both our words and deeds, reflecting a life committed to God’s principles.

DAILY CHALLENGE

Proverbs 15:7-9 calls us to embrace wisdom in our speech and righteousness in our actions. By allowing God’s wisdom to shape our hearts and guide our lips, we can make a powerful impact as we live our lives for Him.
