The Greatness of God’s Works
“Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein,” Psalm 111:1, 2.
This psalm is in praise of God’s works. Men often receive praise for the works they do. Recognizing the things they do as beneficial or helpful to others is good. So how much more is the Lord worthy of praise because of the works He has done and will continue to do?
God’s works are described in several different ways. They are not specified to what works they are, but God has done many, and each of them is worthy of praise. One work He has done is the creation. In this alone, He has given you many things to give you pleasure. If you would take the time to recognize each thing the Lord has made, for each flower or tree you see or to stand amazed by the mighty rolling sea, your heart and your lips would soon burst forth with praise.
His works are great, meaning they are numerous or of a great magnitude. You could spend all day just praising God for His different works. There are so many. Next, His work is honorable. They are as He is, majestic and splendorous. His works are worthy of honor and respect. They are high and lofty, above all else. For He Himself is the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity (Isaiah 57:15). His works are described as glorious. They are magnificent, full of beauty and excellence. They are as ornaments adorning the earth.
Above all these works, there is one greater still: the work of the cross.
God sent His Son to do the work you could not do for yourself.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Yes, praise Him for all He has done and all the beauty you can enjoy. But let your heart reflect and rejoice for the salvation He has given you.
