The Promised Comforter

“My young interpreter was fearful when we arrived at the end of the long, rickety, wooden pier. It was already late, and darkness had engulfed us as in a cave with no light to be seen except for the distant lantern shining through the open door at the front of the council house. We could hear the sound of many people speaking lowly and shuffling along the beach, crunching sand beneath their feet as together we emerged at the top of the grassy bluff just above the water’s edge. These were people we had not met before, except for one man some sixty miles away who had asked us to come. ‘I don’t know what to say, sir, when we reach the house,’ my companion said to me. And I replied, ‘The Lord will give us the words.’” —Memoirs of a Missionary, Glen Knight
I often think about the fact that God knows the end of all things from the beginning. Nothing takes Him by surprise. But there are so many times when we fear what is happening around us. The things we cannot see and that which we do not know make for considerable trepidation, especially because we hear the many voices of uncertainty and doubt and outright disbelief around us. We often feel the need for a big brother figure who will assure us and protect us; someone who will remind us of who we are and what we should say at any given time; someone who will help us know that we are not alone. God, in His wisdom, has given us the Holy Spirit to do just that. He is with us always, under-girding our faith and reminding us of what Jesus said, even in the darkest of our circumstances.

AN AMAZING TRUTH: We are never alone!
