Saul Preaches in Jerusalem
“I had often visited the town, despite it being predominately Muslim, owing to its location in one of the chief Islamic provinces of the island. The merchants in the shops were friendly and so also was the operator of the small hostel where lodging was available. But no matter the outward neighborly countenance , lurking beneath was a sinister circumstance we were soon to discover. And that would come through an overt attempt upon our lives while we gathered with the little church for prayer one night. But for the grace of God, we would not have escaped.”—Memoirs of a Missionary, Glen Knight
It seems sometimes that our best attempt to help people ends with rebuff. Intentions are good on our part inasmuch as we can see a need and realize we have the means to lend a hand for improvement. It may be in our community or in our churches or even within our own families that we find ourselves in a position to make a difference for good, but because of contemptuous attitudes, we seem to fail. Rarely is it that life is threatened, although in some cases, the hatred that wells up against righteousness can take such an adverse turn. There is then, a tendency to surrender and to meld into complacency. The fact is though, that if there ever was a need to help make a difference, then there still is the need. It requires a lot of courage and wisdom from The Lord to take a stand. It also necessitates a fair amount of humility to know when to stop and move on, leaving people with their own decisions. This seems to be the very thing Jesus was saying. (See Luke 9:1-5.)
An Amazing Truth! In faithfulness to the Lord, there is never failure!
