BSSC CEO’s March 1, 2025, PR Report:
As March 2025 begins, we can look back at the year 2024. It appears that our sales increased in 2024 over 2023 and our Profit & Loss for the year shows a good profit. We have a wonderful group of employees and after working at it for a couple years, we have gotten our pay scale up to a more competitive level. All in all, 2024 was a good year. Although our finances have been pretty good, we are constantly challenged with the costs of repairing or replacing equipment and building parts. Our building and all the equipment, parts, and machines in it are getting older and more of them are coming to a time of needing to be replaced or repaired. The following are some examples:
Our smaller press (GTO 5 unit) is having problems. After meetings and discussions, and researching the cost of new and refurbished units, it is our consensus that the GTO is not worth putting possibly $100,000 into it to refurbish it. It would probably have to be sent to Dallas to be refurbished. A new press to replace it could cost $1 million to $2 million. We are working toward printing more on the Digital Print-on-Demand units (POD). We currently have two PODs and could get a third one if needed. PODs are on lease with toner and maintenance/parts included. Going more digital for secondary printing seems a wise direction for the future. The cold weather has shown us we have heating problems in 3 areas in the building. We just spent $5,000 in repairs and in the coming year, we may have as much as $90,000.00 in additional expenses to fix old heat and air systems.
The collator pump stopped working and is not repairable. We have ordered a new one for $10,300.00. The roof on our front building (Store and offices) has a 20-year life rating. It was done in 2005 for $56,000.00. It will likely need a new coating soon and the cost will likely be much more than $56k. The cooler machines and snack dispenser in our break room, 3 machines total, have all quit working. We found a used cooler box that will do what we need for now for $275.00. A new one is normally about $1800.00 dollars. I could continue with this list but suffice it to know that while we are having constant expenses, God has been good to supply our needs, and I know He will continue to do so.
