God Hates Dishonesty

“A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight. When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom. The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them,” Proverbs 11:1-3.

“He has more than me!” Can you recollect these words. Such a common phrase shouted out by children. It was not that they wanted things to be fair, but they were fighting for the biggest piece of dessert. I have known some adults who would measure each cup or bowl so that the children had no excuse to bicker. As an adult you see this attitude as childish. Something that a grown adult would not engage in. However, the admonition of the devotional is for all ages.

God is a God of truth, and He is also just and right. “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he” (Deuteronomy 32:4). He is incapable of lying or cheating. You are given the command to be holy as He is holy. “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16).

A prideful person will not listen or care about this command. He will not take into consideration to be fair and honest, and this will cause shame in his life and the lives of others. On the other hand, a person who is humble is a person who walks in wisdom. A wise person will take care that he will not do anything knowingly dishonest or unfair. If you are wise, you will realize who God is and that He hates dishonesty, and it will also be your desire to hate what He hates.

A wise person is led by his integrity. This is a word not used much anymore because the world lives the way it wants.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

As a child of God, you should be known by your integrity rather than your insincerity.
