Daily Devotional for Sunday, August 10
Love Is of God
“For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love,” Galatians 5:6.
I have a great love for music. I love and appreciate many different genres of music. I have always had this love, and it prompted me to take music lessons when I was young to learn to play instruments. When you take lessons, you are required to practice every day between lessons. To some, practice is something they do not look forward to because they have not yet learned to love their instrument or the sound that they are creating. But to the one that loves their instrument and the music it produces, practice is not something you hate doing. My love for music and the ability to someday play with others to make music motivated me to practice what I had learned.
In your life for Christ, your outward following can be very superficial, and your heart may not be in it. If you intend to live out your faith, then it has to be activated by love (verse 6). Loving the Lord really is not that hard because, “We love him, because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). When you develop that love for Christ in your life, it makes it easier and a joy to follow Him and live out your faith, “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:10, 11). Living out your faith because of your love for the Lord is what God is really looking for.
JUST A QUESTION
What motivates you to live out and practice your faith? Is it something that you have to be almost forced to do or do you do it because you love the beautiful music it produces in your life?
