Love Is Permanent
“Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they, shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away,” 1 Corinthians 13:8.
When I was about fifteen years old, I had a confrontation with my dad. While I do not remember exactly what it was all about, I do remember that I thought my dad was being unreasonable or harsh to me. In a moment of anger, I shouted out to my dad that I hated him. That outburst quickly ended the conversation, and I went to my room. I felt horrible for making such a statement and wondered how my dad was going to treat me after saying such a thing. The next day my dad came to me and told me that he loved me and was sorry that I felt that way. I apologized and told him that I did not hate him. What amazed me was that even though I had said what I did, it did not change my dad’s love for me because no matter how I felt, he would always love me.
The kind of love that God gives and teaches you to practice is a giving love that never goes away. A lot of things end up failing in this life, but this kind of love will never fail (verse 8). This love can never be taken from you, “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38, 39). Because God is love, when you know the Lord as Savior, you now live in God’s love, and He lives in you (1 John 4:16).
REFLECTION
Jesus wants you to live in a permanent state of love, “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love” (John 15:9).
