The Advantage Enjoyed by Israel

“Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,” 1 Corinthians 10:1.

During my young adult years, I was blessed to have many ladies that I could look to for a godly example. There was one sweet sister in particular that was so kind and loving in every way. She was always there to give comfort to those hurting and rejoice when good news was shared. She was faithful in her service to the Lord and her home was open to anyone, anytime. But somehow, I thought she must have been blessed with an extra measure of faith, as though she had something that I (and others) had not been given. Of course, that was not true. She had the same wonderful riches in Christ Jesus that all of God’s people have. She was simply living an obedient life in Christ.

The children of Israel had been given great blessings as well. Just imagine the wonders they witnessed as the Lord mightily delivered them from the hand of Pharaoh. God led them during the day by a pillar of cloud and at night by a pillar of fire (Exodus 13:21, 22). They all crossed the Red Sea on dry land without harm, while Pharaoh and his army drowned before their eyes (Exodus 14:13-31). They were fed with manna that fell from Heaven and given water to drink from the rock. The Lord was with them, directing their every step and yet some gave Him glory while others disobeyed.

We have been given so much in Christ Jesus our Lord! He is the Bread of Life and the Living Water. He has given us everything we need to live an abundant life in Him. We will each make a choice what we will do with Christ. May we choose to give Him glory.

REFLECTION

“Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples” (John 15:8).
