Crossing the Red Sea

“And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left,” Exodus 14:22.

I have talked to missionaries in foreign countries that faced circumstances on the mission field in which they questioned why they were there and felt like God had allowed them to be in a no-win situation. Some even questioned their call of God and regretted putting their family in such a hard situation. Most, if not all of them eventually would tell of how they were delivered from their circumstances and in hindsight could see how God was working out their situation the whole time.

You may find it hard to be able to give God glory when you are surrounded by circumstances that seem to be overwhelming you. It may seem that there is no way out of your situation and that God does not seem to be doing anything at the moment. When the children of Israel were being pursued by the Egyptians, they became very afraid and blamed Moses for leading them into this trap (Exodus 14:10-12). But because Moses had been instructed by the Lord as to where they should go and knew that He had a plan in all of this, “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever” (Exodus 14:13). They were able to give God glory, “And Israel saw that great work which the Lord did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord, and his servant Moses” (Exodus 14:31).

REFLECTION

Maybe we should be giving God glory for what He is about to do and not be in fear about things that He is already working out for our good.
