A Good Wife
“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord,” Proverbs 18:22.
This Scripture highlights the profound blessings that a good wife brings into a man’s life. In the context of biblical wisdom, a wife is more than a companion; she is a divine gift that enriches life with love, support and partnership.
The term “good thing” signifies something of immense value and worth. A good wife brings stability, joy and peace into a home. She is a partner in all aspects of life, contributing to the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of her family. Her presence is a manifestation of God’s favor, a reminder that He is intimately involved in the details of our lives and relationships.
In verse 24, we read, “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” This verse, while often applied to friendships, can also reflect the intimate bond within a marriage. A good wife is not just a partner but a friend who stands by her husband through thick and thin. This deep, unwavering bond mirrors the closeness that is ideally found in a godly marriage.
Moreover, a good wife embodies the virtues described in Proverbs 31:10-31. She is industrious, wise and kind, managing her household with grace and diligence. Her worth is far above rubies, and her husband safely trusts in her. She brings him good and not harm all the days of her life.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Finding a good wife is not merely about companionship but discovering a source of continuous blessing and favor from the Lord. As we seek to build godly marriages, let us cherish and honor the good wives among us, recognizing them as precious gifts from God.
