Prophecy of the Distant Future

“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh,” Luke 21:28.

When I was a child, I remember my parents getting on to me constantly about slouching. They would often tell me and my siblings to sit up straight or stand up straight. They would tell us it is not healthy to lay around watching TV all day. It seems to me that we have come to accept bad posture as part of life in American culture. However, any physician worth his or her salt will tell you that maintaining good posture is crucial for overall health. Good posture supports the spine, improves breathing, reduces stress on joints and can even enhance mood and confidence. As you read this you are probably adjusting your posture already.

Jesus was concerned with the spiritual posture of His disciples and encouraged them to remain poised for the positive as they went through difficult days and waited for their coming redemption.

In the original language, “look up” literally means to bend upward and stand erect implying that one was currently bent overlooking down in discouragement. Jesus then said to “lift up your heads” reminding them that good things are coming, and they should look forward to those things and focus on them.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Jesus cares about your posture. How is your spiritual posture today? Stand up straight and lift up your heads because God is going to do exceedingly more than you could ever think or imagine.
