The Message of the Tomb
“He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,” Luke 24:6.
The women came to the tomb at dawn, bearing spices, expecting to find the lifeless body of Jesus. Instead, they found the stone rolled away and two men in shining garments. Fear and wonder filled their hearts. The tomb, which should have symbolized death and finality, now declared a message of life and hope.
In their sorrow, the women had forgotten the words Jesus had spoken to them. In our own seasons of despair, we too often forget the promises of God. The empty tomb stands forever as a witness that His Word is true and that even in our darkest moments, God is working out miracles.
Peter’s response is instructive. Though he had denied Jesus, when he heard the women’s report, he ran to the tomb. His heart still longed for hope. Finding the grave clothes laid aside, Peter marveled. There was no body, no defeat—only the sure sign of victory. The empty tomb tells us that failure does not have the final word. God’s mercy and power reach into our shame, our confusion and our brokenness, offering us new life.
The tomb was not a place of death that morning—it was a testimony of a living Savior. It reminds us that what appears hopeless to man is never hopeless to God. Resurrection power changes everything. Because God could raise Jesus from the dead, He can breathe life into whatever seems dead in us.
Today, the tomb still speaks. Its message is simple, yet, life-changing: Jesus lives, and because He lives, we have hope, forgiveness and eternal life.
Thought For Today
The tomb is empty! May your heart be full of joy because Christ conquered death.
