Uzziah’s Arrogance

“But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the Lord his God, and went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense upon the altar of incense. And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the Lord, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the Lord God,” 2 Chronicles 26:16, 18.
You have heard the story, “Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall Humpty Dumpty had a great fall, all the kings horses and all the Kings men could not put Humpty back together again.” This can be applied to pride and arrogance.
The Bible states in Proverbs 16:18, “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” Whenever you lift up your heart against the Lord and his churches regardless of what your position is in life, or what you have accomplished you are headed for a fall.
Uzziah believed because of his might and because of his position, that he could offer anything to God, ignore wise counsel about worshiping God and be disorderly in God’s house. He discovered that this act of disobedience was the recipe for his destruction.
To avoid the path of destruction that arrogance produces, you must recognize that God and others make achievements in your life possible. The Lord is to be worshiped in spirit and in truth. The counsel and encouragement from your pastor and fellow members of your church helps you to avoid the destruction that arrogance produces. Pride may make you feel like you are on top of the wall, however, in reality it sets you up for a terrible fall.

FINAL THOUGHT
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” (James 4:6).
