Choosing a KJV Sunday School Curriculum

If your church teaches from the King James Version, the first question about any Sunday School curriculum is simple: is the KJV the only Bible it uses, or one option among several?

What to look for

  • The KJV in every book. Check the student books, teacher guides, memory verses and visuals, not only the lesson text. Some publishers print the KJV for part of the material and another translation for the rest.
  • Doctrine you can trust. Read the publisher’s doctrinal statement. Lessons on salvation, baptism, the Lord’s Supper and the church should match what your church teaches.
  • A plan for every age. A church is easier to run when adults, teens and children follow one publisher and, ideally, one schedule.
  • Teachers who are ready on Sunday. Look for step-by-step teacher guides, visuals and student pages that do not need extra preparation.
  • Quarterly ordering that fits your budget. Printed quarterlies let you order exactly the number of books each class needs.

How publishers handle the KJV

Many publishers now offer the KJV as one choice among several translations. Some print Sunday School options in a KJV edition alongside other versions. Others print memory verses in more than one translation, or publish the same curriculum in the ESV, NKJV and KJV. Only a few publishers, including Bogard Press, use the King James Version exclusively.

That difference matters most in a mixed-age church. When every class uses the same Bible, children memorize the same words they hear from the pulpit, and teachers never have to explain why a student book reads differently from the church pew Bible.
