Three Little Words

By Michael Whitman

“Jesus loves me” is a well-known, cherished children’s song. It has been sung by a multitude of kids in all parts of the world. It has been recorded by many an artist. But have you really thought about those three little words? Jesus Loves Me.

This song will be sung by many in their VBS programs. It has the potential to unveil eternity for children and adults alike. The power in this song is not the words themselves, but who it refers to. The astonishing truth that Jesus loves us.

To know those words as truth is one thing. To experience them is another. Knowing that Jesus loves you should be the theme of our every waking breath. It should be the thought process before we awake in the morning. Our eternity rests upon it.

Think of those three little words. Their immensity is beyond our capacity to reason. That the God of all the earth could love us to the point of death. His love is so massive that we cannot imagine, nor encompass it ourselves. We will never be able to express this amount of love, for we are frail and unloving at times.

God’s agape love is the best thing that has happened to me. It forever changed my life. Without it I would not have an existence. Without God’s love, I would have no reason to live.

Those three little words are not so little. They are the grandest expression of a love that will always and forever be. The propensity of those words is beyond anyone’s ability to reason. How that Jesus died for the sins of the world, past, present and future. He died so that our death would not be as insignificant. For with His death, we would have the chance to bask in Heaven for eternity.

I cherish every time I hear that song. For it makes me remember my depravity and His excellency. I will always know that Jesus loves me. He will forever love us, eternity and on.
