The Response to God’s Wisdom

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God,” 1 Corinthians 1:18

I recently had the opportunity to attend an amazing outreach at the Grand Prix in Long Beach, California. As we walked along the streets passing out Bibles, I was compelled to go speak to a young man sitting on the grass by himself away from the crowd. He was open to talking about God, but as soon as Jesus was mentioned, his demeanor quickly changed. He began to spout philosophical ideas to try and refute the deity of Christ. At first, I became frustrated as my attempt to share the good news of Jesus Christ was being so adamantly rejected. My heart’s desire was for this man to know the truth. After praying in my heart, the Lord calmed my spirit, and I simply asked him if I could share what Jesus had done for me. Praise God he was willing to listen, although his heart remained hardened.

As we are called to go into the world and tell others about salvation in and through Jesus Christ, we will find many who will not be receptive to the message of the cross. It can be difficult for us who have received His precious gift to see so many reject the promise of everlasting life. This hits even closer to our heart when it is a loved one such as a spouse, child, parent or sibling.

Continue to pray for your lost loved ones and ask the Lord for boldness to be the witness He would have you to be. This is the prayer for my own life as well. There may be hundreds that reject the message, but there will be great rejoicing in Heaven for even one lost soul that repents (Luke 15:7).

REFLECTION

Have you made spreading the gospel your life’s purpose? Pray for a heart burdened for lost souls.
