Repentance is Needed
“I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish,” Luke 13:3.
In Luke 13:1-5, Jesus addressed the crowd about two tragic events: the massacre of Galileans by Pilate and the collapse of the tower of Siloam. The people likely assumed that these tragedies happened because the victims were worse sinners than others. But Jesus quickly corrected this thinking. He told them that unless they repented, they too would perish.
Repentance is not just about acknowledging sin but turning away from it completely. Many people believe that as long as they are morally better than others, they are safe. However, Jesus made it clear that no one is exempt from the call to repentance. Sin separates us from God, and without repentance, judgment awaits.
Jesus’ warning is urgent. The examples He gave were sudden and unexpected disasters, reminding us that life is fragile. None of us knows when our last day will be. That is why repentance is not something to delay. Today is the day to turn back to God, to humble ourselves and to seek His mercy.
The good news is that God is rich in grace. He does not desire for anyone to perish but wants all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). Through Jesus Christ, we have the opportunity to be forgiven and restored.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Examine your heart today. Are there sins you need to confess? Are you truly surrendered to Christ? The time for repentance is now.
