The Judgement of the Christian’s Works

“Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is,” 1 Corinthians 3:13.

Have you ever heard of someone that has “flipped” a house? People come in and take a house that was in bad shape and make the necessary repairs and make it look nice for the next people that will buy it. Regretfully, they will at times cover up problems without fixing them just to make it look as if there was not a problem. Unfortunately, the new owners usually discover the problem that was covered up and the shotty work that the flippers did is revealed. As hard as they tried to hide the problem, it almost certainly will be revealed.

Everyone, including God, is watching us. We are being watched and judged constantly by family, friends, coworkers, neighbors and so forth. Even though we may have many of our works burned up (verse 13), we are assured that we will not lose our salvation because we do not have enough good works (verse 15). Furthermore, the Lord does tell us that there is reward for our good works (verse 14), and that He will bring the reward with Him when He comes back for us, “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be” (Revelation 22:12). While we may have made some poor choices over the years, the Lord does not want us to give up, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). So even though everyone may be watching, and you have made some serious mistakes in your life that will be revealed, God still wants to use you.

QUESTION

Even though your works will be revealed, will you have some works that will not burn up?
