The Promise of the Resurrection
“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed,” 1 Corinthians 15:51, 52.
I had a neighbor and friend who needed some financial help. He was self-employed and some money that was due to him had been held up thus putting him into hardship. He asked to borrow some money till his money came. He promised to pay me back within two weeks. Two weeks came and went, then three and four weeks past and he still was not able to pay me back due to circumstances beyond his control. No matter the reasons why, he made promises that he was not able to keep.
Jesus has made a promise to all that have put their faith in Him that He will come back for them (John 14:3). We are taught that the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed (1 Corinthians 15:52). We are assured of this promise in another passage, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16). When the dead are resurrected, the change will be self-evident, “So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory” (1 Corinthians 15:54). When Jesus comes back, it will be to resurrect the dead in Christ and rapture those who remain; we can rely on this promise.
REFLECTION
You can trust God’s promises, and you do not have to worry whether or not He will keep them, “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)”
(Hebrews 10:23).
