We Will Be Changed

“Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself,” Philippians 3:21.

It is often said that man is his own worst enemy. I believe this is especially true for the child of God. The battle between flesh and spirit is a real struggle for God’s people. We have a yearning desire to please our Lord, yet, the flesh is always there, rearing its ugly head. It is comforting to read the apostle Paul’s own struggle with the flesh (Romans 7:14-25). After his description of the battle of the two natures, he asks, “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” (Romans 7:24).

Praise be to God, there is a wonderful answer! I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. The day we put our trust in Christ, we became citizens of Heaven, and many promises became ours. And one of those great and precious promises is that we will one day receive a glorified body. It is difficult to fathom exactly what that means. No more sickness, no more pain, and my personal favorite, no more sin! I look forward to the day I can kneel at the feet of Jesus, in a sinless body, and thank Him for all He has done.

It can be a struggle living in this world where we do not belong. The battle with the flesh can grow wearisome as well. But keep looking up! Jesus has gone to prepare a place for His people, and He is coming back for us soon (John 14:3). Our God is powerful and greater than all! Remember whose you are. Stand upon His promises and look forward to your new body. We shall be changed!

REFLECTION

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18).
