The Reason for God’s Wisdom

“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty,” 1 Corinthians 1:27.

An elderly pastor moved to the area as he was retiring from full-time pastoral duty. Our church soon called him to be our associate pastor and bus minister. About ten years after he first came to church, I had surrendered to the gospel ministry and had some questions and issues that I wanted to talk to the pastor about, but he was not available, so I asked this man what he thought about my situation. Even though he said that he was not sure how he might be able to help me, he told me what he thought the Bible had to say on the matter. The Lord used him to give me the best biblical advice a person could receive. This old, thin, frail looking, quiet, unassuming man was one of the hardest working, dedicated and wisest men that I have ever been blessed to know.

Godly wisdom is one of the most important things a person can attain in this life. James wrote, “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy” (James 3:17). Godly wisdom will always lead you down the right path; it will always show you how to handle a situation; it will always be better than the wisdom of this world. The world thinks they have a monopoly on wisdom, but the Lord likes to show them that He is the one who truly makes people wise.

FINAL THOUGHT

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5).
