The Revival on One Man
“And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year. And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet,” 2 Kings 13:20, 21.
Elisha was an incredible man of God. When he asked Elijah for a double portion, the Lord sure delivered! He was used by God to speak to His people and stir their faith, but he was also a testimony to surrounding nations that there was a God in Israel (2 Kings 5:1-14; 6:8-23). During Elisha’s service, wickedness abounded in Israel. The palace was full of deceit, treachery, murder and idol worship. Elisha’s double portion of the Spirit of the Lord was needed during such grim times. The more wicked the royal family became the more power Elisha was given. God would not let their wickedness overcome His presence in the nation.
Elisha fell fatally ill, and Jehoash king of Israel came to visit. Even on his deathbed, Elisha was performing signs. He used a bow and arrow to deliver a message to Jehoash about fighting the Syrians. He taught and advised to the very end.
Elisha died and was buried. Moabite marauders invaded every spring, and a band raided a village near Elisha’s grave. Some men were burying a man in the same tomb as Elisha, and they spotted the raiders. They quickly dropped the man in the grave. But when he touched Elisha’s body, the dead man revived and stood on his feet! Even dead, Elisha had power!
THOUGHT
“Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine” (1 Timothy 5:17).
