John’s Request to Jesus

“When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?” Luke 7:20.

For several months, while in between colleges, I waited tables at a restaurant in North Little Rock, Arkansas. I was going to work one day when I saw a man standing on the side of the interstate who looked like one of my coworkers. This particular coworker did not have a vehicle, so he was always hitching rides to work. As I passed by, I thought to myself, “Well, that is my coworker!” So, I took the next exit and doubled back to pick him up.

There was only one problem. This guy was not my coworker. Of course, I could not just speed off when I realized that he was not who I thought he was. What kind of person would do that to someone, right? So, I had to let this man into my car, I thought. The guy seemed nice enough, but I was a bundle of nerves from pickup to drop off. As kids, we had all been taught that you do not talk to strangers, and you definitely do not go anywhere with them. In one simple stop, I was violating both of those instructions from my parents. God protected me that day. And honestly, that man might be saying God protected him that day.

The danger of false teaching is that it is often disguised as the truth. I have many friends that are great people, but they are not children of God. Satan has done a tremendous job of confusing what the truth is. People are looking for something, but sadly, they are rejecting Jesus, who is the Truth (John 14:6). People think what they have found is the truth, but it is a lie. Remember that anything that is not the truth of God is a lie.

CHALLENGE

This week, pray for someone who has been deceived by Satan’s lies that they might find salvation through Jesus.
