Covenant of Love
“How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices! Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon,” Song of Solomon 4: 10, 11.
Unfortunately, the generation growing up today will have a difficult time understanding the depths of the personal and intimate relationship that marriage is supposed to be. The bridegroom gives reference to the bride being his sister, but this is not suggesting a biological sister. Instead, they are the same because first the natural man, and now they have united in not only a physical bond but also spiritual.
The word covenant means a binding agreement, a promise or a pledge. Marriage is a covenant that should not be taken lightly or should not be broken except for extenuating circumstances. Are you married? Do you view your marriage as a relationship with the Lord also? God made covenants with Israel because He loved them. In the New Testament, Christ through His shed blood made a covenant with you because He loves you. God will always love you and seek to draw you close to Him. God is a personal God and that is how He wants you to know Him.
Verse 11 said the bridegroom referred to the kisses of his bride as something so sweet they should be savored. Can you relate this to God’s Word? “The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb” (Psalm 19:9, 10). Do you have a craving for Him and His Word as something sweet.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Draw close to God through His Word. Let His Word be as honey and the honeycomb. “O taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8).
