The Faithless Steward

“For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?” 1 Corinthians 4:7.

When I was a young man, while attending college, I became an area manager for a big chain box store. We were going to have a big meeting at our warehouse with all of the warehouse managers, buyers and corporate officers, including the cofounder and CEO of the company. I had started to implement a strategy of displaying products and giving point of purchase information in my section. I was tasked with implementing this strategy throughout the entire warehouse before this meeting. I did not believe there was enough time and resources to make this happen. I was encouraged that I could do it and that I would be given the resources to make it happen. Though it was very hard, and thinking it impossible, it was nonetheless accomplished. As a result, this new strategy became the standard throughout the whole company. Though I was credited with accomplishing this, I did not deserve all the credit as it was a team effort. My faithless attitude never would have accomplished this task if it were not for others encouraging me and giving me what I needed to accomplish it.

Sometimes as workers in the Lord’s churches, we take credit for things that were never in our control. While we are called to be a faithful steward of God, the truth is sometimes we doubt what God can and will do through us. We have been given gifts by Him to use, “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 Peter 4:10). We are all in this together and all credit goes to the Lord.

JUST A THOUGHT

The Lord’s work is never accomplished in our power but, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
