When Righteous Men Rejoice
“When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden. He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy,” Proverbs 28: 12, 13.
In general, people like to be praised for the things they do. Some even will praise themselves because they may think they are great or are deserving of it. The Bible warned against this. “Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips” (Proverbs 27:2).
Yet, those who live righteously will be known for their work. If you walk in righteousness, it is not only you who will be blessed for it, but your family, your neighbors and your work. The opposite is true if you live as the wicked. The way you choose to live will have blessings or repercussions.
If you live righteously, you will confess your sins instead of covering them up because you do not want others to know your failures. A righteous man is not perfect; a righteous man continues to seek God even though he is not perfect. David was a man whose life was not without fault; yet, he was called a man after God’s own heart. David had a deep desire to obey God, and when he failed, He would confess it to the Lord. The Lord will show mercy to you if you repent and turn from your sins. “The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy” (Psalm 145:8). In fact, He desires to teach sinners. “Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he teach sinners in the way” (Psalm 25:8).
When you live righteously and confess your sins, this is evidence that you fear the Lord. Therefore, if you fear the Lord, you will be happy. True happiness or joy comes only in obedience.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Let your life be evident to others that the Lord is with you.
