The Sanctity of Marriage

“Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets,” Proverbs 5:15, 16.

Our key verses provide timeless wisdom on cherishing the marital relationship, highlighting the significance of a devoted, loving wife within the home. The passage calls us to value and nurture this bond.

Devotion—“Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well” (verse 15).

The imagery of drinking from one’s own cistern emphasizes the importance of fidelity. A wife in the home deserves the full devotion of her husband. This devotion cultivates a stable and secure environment where love can flourish. In a world that often undervalues commitment, this call to faithfulness reminds us of the sacredness of the marital bond.

Delight—“Rejoice with the wife of thy youth” (verse 18).

Marriage is not only a commitment but also a source of joy. This Scripture encourages husbands to find delight in their wives, cherishing their companionship and celebrating the love that has grown over time. This delight fosters a joyful home where mutual respect and affection are continually nourished.

Dedication—“Be thou ravished always with her love” (verse 19).

Dedication goes beyond mere obligation; it is a passionate commitment. Being “ravished” with love refers to a deep, abiding affection that keeps the marital relationship vibrant and strong. This dedication ensures that the home remains a place of warmth and love, reflecting God’s design for marriage.

REMINDER

Proverbs 5:15-20 encourages us to uphold the sanctity of marriage through devotion, delight and dedication, thereby, enriching our homes with love and faithfulness.
