The Coming of the King
“Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?” Song of Solomon 3:6.
Solomon painted this vivid picture of a grand procession emerging from the wilderness symbolizing the arrival of someone very important and holy. The use of myrrh and frankincense, often associated with worship and sacrifice, reminded us of the sacredness of this event.
Verse 7 emphasized the honor and protection surrounding the king. The sixty warriors represent strength and security, indicating that the king was well-guarded and respected.
Verse 8 said, “They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.” This highlighted the preparedness and vigilance of those who protected the king, ensuring his safety against any threat.
Verses 9 and 10 described King Solomon’s carriage, made of the finest wood, silver, gold and purple. This opulent carriage represented the glory and splendor of the king as well as his love for his people.
Finally, verse 11 invited the daughters of Zion to behold King Solomon with the crown given to him by his mother on his wedding day. “Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold King Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.” This celebration of the king’s crowning and wedding day signified joy, unity and the fulfillment of promises.
DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT
Just as Solomon’s arrival was marked by splendor and celebration, we anticipate the return of Jesus with joy and reverence. Let us prepare our hearts and live in a way that honors our King, looking forward to the day when we will see Him face-to-face in all His glory.
