The Honor of Kings
“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness,”
Proverbs 25:2, 5.
When I was younger and wanted to know something, I was told to go look it up. I was to take the time myself to discover the world around me. And that is how it is with most people. Would you agree that you would rather ask and listen to other people’s knowledge than seek it out on your own. Now, you have the world at your fingertips. This was not the case back when this proverb was penned. The common people relied on the kings and princes to guide them in their lives.
It was the honor of kings to have knowledge and through that knowledge to rule righteously. The glory of the kings who search out a matter is compared with the glory of God who knows all things. To God be the glory who knows all things and His ways are unsearchable. “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things; to whom be glory for ever, Amen” (Romans 11:33-36).
Though kings were highly honored and trusted because of their position, there should always be caution with those who are leaders. “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help” (Psalm 146:3). Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords, and because He is, you can trust Him to guide you in all truth.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Only trust men as they follow Christ.
