A Light in the Midst of Darkness

“Therefore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me,” Micah 7:7, 8.
In 2016, the Chicago Cubs baseball team finally went to the World Series again. They had not won the World Series in one hundred eight years. They had hopes of finally breaking the supposed curse on them. Even during the best-of-seven games series with the Cleveland Indians, they found themselves down 3-1 in the series. Many had counted them out while they were down, but they rallied and finally won the World Series again after so many years. It is considered one of the greatest comebacks in baseball history.
Throughout their existence, the people of Israel have been faced with great challenges. The more they turned away from the Lord and his commands, the more they fell apart, and their enemies seemingly triumphed over them. When they have had nowhere else to turn, they have always had the Lord to look to, for He has always promised restoration for them. They have had to realize, “I will bear the indignation of the Lord, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness” (Micah 7:9). In facing judgment that was coming to them, they could also look to the Lord to raise them back up though they had fallen (verses 7, 8). No matter how dark it has ever been for the people of the nation of Israel, the Lord has always been their Light in the midst of the darkness surrounding them. He has always been the answer to their problems.

REFLECTION
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1, 2).
