The Reaffirmation

“Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you. Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all,” 2 Corinthians 7:12, 13.
Everyone has times when there is a need to speak harshly or severely with people. Not because you are wanting to be mean, but someone may be doing something that is harmful to himself or to others. When Paul wrote 1 Corinthians, it was with sternness because the church was allowing someone to continue in sin. They were not willing to discipline him. The reason why is not given, but many times circumstances are not addressed because you do not want to sound mean, or you do not want people angry at you. Regardless, when it comes to sin, it should be addressed because sin is harmful for all involved.
In writing 1 Corinthians, Paul was addressing the issue which made some people upset with him; yet, he was also addressing the church as a whole to encourage them all. In the second letter addressed to the Corinthian church, Paul wanted to reassure them that he loved them and did not want division in their fellowship. He continued to let them know that he cared for them as a father would care for his children.
He had sent Titus to deliver the letter, and when he learned that Titus was well received, this comforted Paul and gave him joy. Paul assured Titus that the church would do such, and it made Paul glad that he could boast of their kindness. Paul had confidence in their obedience to the Lord which brought them joy.

Something to Think About
It is not always easy to do or say the right thing. Nevertheless, eventually God will make the way smooth, and you will learn obedience is always the right way.
