The Plowing of the Wicked
“An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin. The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness,” Proverbs 21:4, 12.
Have you ever tilled the ground, planted a garden or repotted a plant? All of this has to do with overturning the soil. You do not need to have large equipment or be a farmer to understand what plowing means or to think you have not done it yourself in some small manner. Every time you overturn or prepare soil for planting you are plowing.
There is much in the Scriptures giving examples of using farm labor to compare with how to live right with the Lord. Galatians 6:7, 8 sums up this statement. “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”
The wicked will sow to judgment, shame and regret. Nevertheless, this is not their way of thinking. Rather their way of thinking is described in Proverbs 21:2, “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.” If you have a high look or a prideful heart, you are sowing to the flesh and plowing, planting and growing sin and evil.
Since God is not mocked and He knows your heart, in reality you are not getting away with anything. God is a good God, and He desires for you to sow to the Spirit which will bring His fruit. A tree is known for its fruit, just as a wicked person is known for his deeds. You may think you are hiding them, but the true fruit of the seeds you plant will spring up one day.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Sometimes it is not easy to humble yourself, but the rewards are well worth it, and God offers you good things.
