The Pureness of God’s Word
“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him,” Proverbs 30:5.
We trust in the words from a great variety of sources. We trust textbooks, instruction manuals and self-help books. We even trust the words we see on social media. If we like the source of the words, we generally never apply any critical thinking to them. If we trust the source, we take words from that source at face value. Even peopld who laugh at and denigrate faith as something founded on smoke and mirrors do this. Let famous atheist Richard Dawkins write something and see the militant atheists practically prostrate themselves at the throne of those words.
The ironic thing is that words penned from men’s thoughts and efforts are proven time and time again to be flawed and error-prone. Generally, this failure is not because of malice or intent but because we are far less than perfect. We simply do not have all the available information, so our conclusions are often flawed. Yet, atheists, as mentioned above, will listen with rapture to their favorite anti-God writer and discount God’s Word as flawed and baseless. We believers love to tell those crazy atheists about themselves, do we not? How can they be so deluded?
Sometimes, we, as believers, are not a bit better. We believe the parts of the Bible we like and argue the parts we do not like. We believe our favorite politician or celebrity preacher, even if his words contradict God’s. Sometimes, we just do not believe what God says.
God’s Word is pure and perfect. We can trust it to teach us the way of salvation and to guide us in daily life. It is the all-sufficient rule for faith and life. I promise you that there is something you trust without question—God’s Word.
JUST A THOUGHT
God’s Word is perfect, not just in terms of general meaning but in every word and phrase.
