The Law Was Nailed to the Cross

“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days,” Colossians 2:14, 16.
Have you ever tried to open a door or maybe a window, and it just would not budge. For whatever reason, the door or window remained stuck. This was the idea Paul was trying to get through to the Colossians. Even though they were saved, they remained stuck in the ideas of the Law. The door they still wanted to open led them to follow the traditions of men instead of being led by grace through God’s Spirit.
You understand you were saved through faith by grace (Ephesians 2:8, 9). Yet, sometimes it is easy to get caught up in your own traditions that certain things need to be done a certain way for them to be acceptable. This does not include discipline. As a child of God, you should be disciplined in prayer, study, witnessing and service; however, there are many different methods of applying each one. With the Law there was one way to God and that included many ceremonies which had to be performed to the tee for the Israelites to be acceptable to God.
Then came Christ! He came to fulfill the Law. “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17). All the rites and rituals of the Law were abolished on the cross. The Law could not and will not save people. The Law was put in place to show man he is not able to live up to God’s standard, which is holiness.

Are you bound up in certain ideas that places performance before grace? As you accepted God’s gift of grace for salvation, accept it daily to help you live for Him.
