Comfort in the Power of God

“I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass,” Isaiah 51:12.
There are moments in life when fear grips our hearts and faith seems to waver. A diagnosis, a financial strain or concern for someone we love can make us forget who holds all things together. God’s people in Isaiah’s day felt that same fear. Surrounded by enemies and uncertainty, they forgot their Maker—the One who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth.
In response, God speaks with tender authority: “I, even I, am he that comforteth you.” What a gracious reminder! Our comfort does not come from the absence of trouble but from the presence of Almighty God. He reminds His people that no human power can compare to His eternal strength. Those who threaten us are temporary—“as grass”—but the Lord endures forever.
God not only comforts us; He covers us “in the shadow of his hand.” His power protects us, His presence sustains us, and His promises steady us. When we remember who He is, fear begins to fade. His strength becomes our refuge, and His Word gives us courage to face whatever lies ahead.
A powerful Christian song says, “When you can’t trace His hand, trust His heart.” That truth echoes Isaiah’s message. Even when we cannot see the way forward, we can rest in the power and love of the One who holds us close.

Thought for Today
Fear loses its grip when we remember whose hand holds us. The God who made the heavens is the same God who comforts and keeps us today.
