The Plot Against Jesus
“And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, and could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him,” Luke 19:47, 48.
As Jesus taught in the Temple, offering truth, hope and the message of the kingdom, the hearts of the religious leaders grew darker with envy and fear. They saw His influence growing, His wisdom undeniable, and His authority unlike any they had ever seen. Their solution was not repentance, but resistance. Instead of surrendering to the truth, they plotted to silence it.
But notice the contrast—while the leaders schemed in secret, the people hung on every word Jesus spoke. The crowd was not following religious tradition; they were drawn by truth. Jesus’ words carried weight, healing and life, and the common people recognized it. His presence in the Temple was not a threat to the people—it was a gift.
Yet, even when surrounded by listeners, Jesus was not immune to danger. His enemies were persistent, waiting for the right moment to strike. Still, He continued teaching boldly, knowing the cross lay ahead. His love for the people outweighed the threat of the plot. He was committed to the mission, unmoved by fear.
This passage reminds us that truth is often met with resistance. The presence of opposition does not mean we are on the wrong path; sometimes it means we are exactly where God wants us to be. Like Jesus, we are called to remain faithful, even when others push back.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
God’s truth may stir opposition, but it cannot be silenced. Stay faithful—what God plants through you will speak louder than any plot against you.
