What We Will Be Like in Heaven
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is,” 1 John 3:2.
When babies are born, many people will remark how much they may look like mom or dad. This comment is often repeated as the baby grows and changes throughout the first few years. It is true that within a year of growing a baby or toddler will change numerous times. It may even look like great aunt Helen or cousin Bill! One thing is true though; a child inherits its family’s genetics in looks and behavior.
But now you are a child of God! Being God’s child does not change you in your physical looks, but it changes you spiritually because now you have been quickened by the Spirit. What better delight and joy is there than knowing you can be transformed by the renewing of your mind to know the will of God (Romans 12:2). Colossians 1:13 states, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”
You have changed to better, not perfect, but you now have a heart and mind that can focus on the Lord and become more like Him day by day. Romans 8:6 says, “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” You also have a hope that one day you will see Him, not in dreaded fear but instead in awe and joy.
This is difficult to comprehend. The Scriptures are not clear exactly what you will be like when you see Him, but they give you enough to know that Jesus is glorified with the Father, and so it will be with you.
Something to Think About
Knowing one day you will see Him as He is lets you know you will be as He is. That is a rejoicing hope.
