Daily Devotional for Tuesday, August 11

No Place To Hide

“O thou inhabitant of Lachish, bind the chariot to the swift beast: she is the beginning of the sin to the daughter of Zion: for the transgressions of Israel were found in thee,” Micah 1:13.
Good and loving parents will provide their children with structure and clear boundaries as they grow and learn. This allows for stability and a loving environment, free of confusion. They need to be taught right from wrong and that there are rewards for good behavior and consequences for disobedience. This is exactly what the Creator has done for mankind from the very beginning. From Adam and Eve to the present day, God has lovingly set forth His standards for living a spiritually abundant life. Along with that, He has given precious promises to the obedient and grave consequences to those that rebel against Him. His Word is clear.
The nations of Israel and Judah were aware of God’s standards. They knew they were to worship God only and have no other gods before Him. Graven images were absolutely forbidden. They had blatantly disobeyed and disrespected the Lord in these things. Yet they believed they could somehow hide behind their heritage as God’s chosen people and judgment would not come upon them. They were wrong. Micah mourned for the destruction of the cities of Judah and for their great sin.
Once God has determined the time for judgment to come, there is no escape. This should move God’s people to action. Judgment is set against those that have not trusted Jesus as Savior. John 3:18 tells us those that have not believed are condemned already. Do we mourn for those facing the judgment as Micah did? Do we care enough to tell them Jesus died to save them? Once their life on earth is over, there will be no second chances. The Lord’s churches, we need to get to work.

There are lost souls around you every day. Ask the Lord for boldness and opportunity to share the gospel with someone today.
