Daily Devotional for Tuesday, November 21

The Glory

“And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid,” Mark 16:8.

How many of us, even when told something is going to happen, still carry on like we are quite shocked when it actually comes to be? Then, the ones who told us are very quick to say, “I told you so!” Jesus had foretold time and time again about what was to happen to Him in Jerusalem. He told them clearly that He would be arrested, tried and crucified, and most importantly, Jesus told them that He would not stay dead, but He would rise on the third day. Yet, here they are seemingly quite shocked to encounter an empty tomb.

But let us not be too hard on these folks because this moment marks a turning point for the disciples. When Jesus was arrested, they all ran to the four corners of the earth. It seemed the man who had led and taught them was gone for good. This is despite Jesus’ own repeated prophecies about these events. Now, the tide had turned because the prophecies had come true. History teaches us that the resurrection of Jesus was the catalyst that ultimately propelled the disciples to acts of bravery and greatness.

Did you know that we have far more reason and evidence to believe in the power of the resurrection than Jesus’ disciples? This was far outside the paradigm the disciples understood, but we have the completed canon of Scripture, which we profess to believe is true. The only question that remains is what we will do with the information. If you claim to believe it, what will you do with it? Will you run for the hills, or allow yourself to be propelled to spiritual greatness?

JUST A THOUGHT: The resurrection is a proven historical fact. By it, we have conquered death. Will we act like that is true or not?
