Thanks for God’s Guarantee

“Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of the Lord Jesus Christ,” 1 Corinthians 1:8.

I have never felt good enough. When I walk into a room, I always feel the least prepared, the least knowledgeable or the least capable. I do not know from where that comes. My parents and grandparents were always supportive. Maybe it comes from being the fourth child. My older sisters were never especially kind. I remember one morning when I was only 12 years old, while eating breakfast, one of my older sisters looked across the table at me and said, “It’s a good thing you have acne cream and braces or you would be in trouble.” Maybe that explains my inferiority complex.

I am thankful every day and will continue to be thankful for eternity for God’s guarantee that I will be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. My guilt has been cancelled in Jesus. My worth is measured in Christ. I truly am not good enough, strong enough or good looking enough but Jesus is. In Him, I am blameless. In Him, I am worthy. In Him, I am accepted.

There is a line from Ephesians 1:6 that is my second favorite verse in all of Scripture: “To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” Listen to it again: “accepted in the beloved.” We are not accepted because we tried hard enough; we are not accepted because we were the smartest, fastest or most prepared. We are certainly not accepted because of acne cream and braces. We are accepted in Jesus. When we are in Christ through faith, God sees His Son when He looks at us. That is reason to give thanks.

REFLECTION

The faithfulness of God is our anchor and security—we may stumble but He is always sure.
