The Relief
“For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears,” 2 Corinthians 7:5.
Paul’s honesty in this passage is deeply comforting. Even this great apostle, who had seen visions of Heaven and carried the gospel across continents, faced weariness and fear. He confessed, “Our flesh had no rest.” Trouble pressed from every direction: opposition outside and anxiety within. Yet, in the midst of exhaustion, Paul experienced divine relief: “Nevertheless God” (verse 6). Those two words change everything.
God knows how to send comfort exactly when we need it most. For Paul, it came through a faithful friend Titus, whose presence and good report revived the apostle’s spirit. Titus brought news that the believers in Corinth had repented and renewed their love for Paul. What once caused sorrow now became a source of joy. God used human hands and a humble heart to deliver heavenly encouragement.
There is a faithful lesson in this verse: relief often comes not by the removal of hardship, but through the arrival of God’s comfort in the middle of it. The same Lord who met Paul in Macedonia meets us in our moments of unrest. Whether through a kind word, a friend’s visit, or quiet assurance in prayer, God has countless ways to lift the downcast.
Daily Challenge
Think of someone who may be weary or burdened today. Be their Titus. Send a note, make a call, or simply offer a listening ear. As you comfort others, you will find your own heart renewed—for the God who comforts the downcast still works through willing hearts to bring His relief.
