The Rewards
2 Corinthians 9:10-14
“Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God,” 2 Corinthians 9:11, 12.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14, 16). This is exactly what the Corinthian church was doing. They were being a light, and because of that, the ones receiving the offering glorified God with thanksgiving.
Paul was commending the church for its generosity. He encouraged them that as they gave to God and His work that God would give to them. This principle is found in Luke 6:38. God will bless you when you give. Not only because you have been obedient to the Lord, but also, He blesses so they can continue to give. God blesses so in return you can continue to give.
When you are a cheerful giver, you do not look at the amount you can give, you just give. You might think, “I do not have enough.” This is never the way God sees the situation. God blesses the motive not the amount. If you are a giver with a pure heart, God will continue to abundantly bless you so that you can continue to give.
In Mark 12:41-44, we read about Jesus when He was near the treasury of the Temple watching people put in their offerings. A poor widow came and gave all she had. He told His disciples that all the other people He had seen gave from their abundance, but she gave even though she was in need herself. This is true giving. This is why Paul was pleased with the Corinthian church because they also gave so generously.
