Wisdom’s Counsel

“Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets,” Proverbs 1:20.

In Proverbs 1:20-33, wisdom is personified as a noble counselor, calling out in the streets and squares, urging people to heed her voice. She stands at the crossroads, where decisions are made and directions are chosen. Her plea is clear, “Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you” (Proverbs 1:23).

Wisdom’s council is not hidden; it is offered openly to all who will listen. She warns of the consequences of ignoring her counsel, likening it to destruction and calamity. Yet, she promises peace and security to those who embrace her teachings. The choice between wisdom and folly is stark, and the consequences are eternally significant.

Godly wisdom is not merely intellectual knowledge but a spiritual discernment rooted in reverence for the Lord (Proverbs 1:7). It begins with a humble heart that acknowledges God’s sovereignty and seeks His guidance in all things. Wisdom’s council invites us to align our thoughts and actions with God’s will, leading to a life that bears fruit for His kingdom.

In our daily lives, we encounter choices that can either draw us closer to God or lead us away from His purposes. By seeking wisdom through prayer, studying God’s Word and seeking wise counsel from others, we position ourselves to make decisions that honor Him. Let us heed the call of Wisdom, for in her words lie the pathways of righteousness and the blessings of the Lord. As we walk in wisdom, we experience the fulfillment of God’s promises and the joy of living in His presence.
