We Must Sow in Order To Reap
Galatians 6:7, 8
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not,” Galatians 6:9.
I really enjoy those preachers on TV, and I send them my seed money every time. I hope readers understand that was very tongue-in-cheek. Of course, I do not send those charlatans anything. But, they do ask, do they not? “Plant a seed!” That, of course, is shady preacher-speak for “Send me money!” The worst of the lot will outright promise things such as, “If you send one hundred dollars, God will somehow see that you get two hundred dollars.” It is very blatant and open. It is also false.
Like most false teachers, these charlatans make sure there is enough of a kernel of truth in their teaching so that your spiritual alarm bells will not ring. Several verses in the Bible speak of reaping according to our sowing. Like any verse, there is usually more to it than others sometimes apply. You could semi-quote this verse and get something like this: “And let us not be weary in well doing, and we shall reap.” Do you see the issue here? Context, context, context.
Even the metaphor Paul used should tell us that our reaping is not instant; he tells us we will reap “in due season.” No farmer plants a field and goes out the next morning after sowing and expect to pick grapes. To us, in due season means in God’s good season. In other words, we will be rewarded when God says, not when we want a blessing. We may never see a reward on this earth; our reward may only be eternal. Who wants to enter Heaven to hear our Lord say, “Well done?” I certainly do.
Finally, bear in mind that if you do not sow, you will never reap at any time.
Just a Thought
If you sow, you will reap; it will be according to God’s plan though and not yours. In fact, you may not reap until eternity.
