As a modern revision of the Revised Standard Version, the English Standard Version Bible stands among the giants of Bible translation. As with the King James and Revised Standard Versions before it, the ESV Bible maintains an essentially literal form of translation. Seeking to bring the ancient author’s words into the modern era the translators of the ESV sought word-for-word translation where possible. Like its predecessors the ESV Bible tries to keep the literary flow and rhythm present in the older versions. Great for personal study and devotion as well as congregational reading and group study.
The ESV Bible follows in the KJV footsteps and strives to maintain and essentially literal translation style. Where possible the translators maintained the original author’s words, however, the English language does not always permit literal translation of ancient texts due to grammar and syntax requirements. Where this was the case the ESV Bible sought to maintain the author’s meaning as much as was possible.
