Tyndale’s 1996 translation, the New Living Translation Bible, was produced by 90 scholars and is a great translation choice for early readers, new believers, and seasoned scholars. The NLT Bible is an excellent choice for personal study and devotion, as well as for use during congregational gatherings and meetings. The NLT’s thought-for-though translation has produced, not only an accurate rendering of the author’s intent, but a very easy read for the user. Whether you want to sit at a desk and study from the NLT Bible or sit on the couch and just absorb God’s Word, the NLT Bible is a translation that can handle both with ease.
The NLT Bible follows a more “dynamic-equivalence” of translation methodology. The intention of the translation was to ensure that the original meaning of the author’s texts were conveyed in modern, idiomatic English. The texts were translated using a thought-for-thought instead of word-for-word method. The original languages were consulted during the process, and each book of the Bible was given a set of 3 scholars who each excelled in their assigned books. This method of translation produces a text that is not only accurate to the author’s intent, but also very readable as a modern English-speaking reader.
