2024 VBS Crafts
Fostering Creativity and Spiritual Growth in Children Through Hands-on Activities
Each day of Bogard Press’ SHINE! Vacation Bible School for 2024 includes craft ideas to help the students grasp the truths of the lesson. We know children remember and apply God’s Word more readily when their hands are involved in engaging activities that correlate to the lessons.
Lesson 1: Mystery at the House of Dagon (1 Samuel 5)
Application: Jesus shines in my life when I trust in Him.
Craft: Students will construct an “Oscar” trophy including the memory verse. They will learn how easy it is to make idols, but also that when Jesus is the God of their lives, He will shine through them like stars.
Lesson 2: Ruth and Boaz: a Love Story (Ruth)
Application: Jesus shines in my life when I accept His love.
Craft: Students will make a “Wall of Fame” poster, decorating it with paper stars, stickers, markers and paint. They will learn that when they accept God’s love and show it to others, they will shine like stars.
Lesson3: Donkeys Don’t Lie (Numbers 22)
Application: Jesus shines in my life when I admit my sin.
Craft: Students will decorate sunglasses with stickers and markers. They will learn how easy it is to be blinded by sin and shiny things of the world. They will be reminded to keep their eyes on God to shine for Him and not be separated because of sin.
Lesson 4: The Giant Slayer (1 Samuel 17)
Application: Jesus shines in my life when I follow Him as my Savior.
Craft: Students will make Action Clapboards, decorated with the Bible verse. They will learn of Jesus’ victory on the cross and be compelled to action. They will be reminded to always display His love to others, take action and shine for the world to see Jesus.
Lesson 5: The Leaping King (2 Samuel 6)
Application: Jesus shines in my life when I worship Him.
Craft: Students will make and decorate music shakers. They will learn that God is always worthy of worship and will be encouraged to make a joyful noise to the Lord.
These and many other creative crafts can be used to help children engage with the lesson and remember the truths of God’s Word. The most important goal of VBS is for children to learn and apply God’s Word to their lives. Crafts can be a great tool to make that happen!
