From the 2016 News and Views Archives: God Has a Plan
December 26th, 1984 was a defining moment in my life. After a long day filled with Christmas celebration and family tradition, our deep sleep was interrupted by loud crackling sounds and thick smoke in the house. After realizing it wasn’t a dream, I quickly leaped to my feet to find the house fully engulfed with flames. Dodging falling debris, I ran frantically to wake up the family and helped them to evacuate the premises. My Dad was able to stretch the telephone cord to the front porch and dial 911. The firetrucks arrived minutes later, but the house was a total loss.
As I stood barefooted on the frost covered grass, I watched with amazement as everything I had was consumed by the raging inferno. Thirty-Two years have passed since that day, and I can still remember
every minute detail of that dreadful night. I can also remember the questions that filled my heart that night as well.
Why did God let this happen? How could He allow everything I had to be taken away? Why continue to serve Him when apparently He doesn’t care about me? (It’s amazing how quickly the devil arrives in your mind during times of crisis). Did I receive answers to all my questions?
No! But with absolute confidence and resolve I can tell you that I learned at an early age that God is true to His Word, He will supply all your need and you can always trust His plans for you.
The theme of this edition of the News and Views embodies the truth that God has a plan for your life. We’ve invited a few missionaries to share their thoughts and personal experiences on God’s plan for their life. We hope that as you read their stories that you will be both challenged and encouraged knowing God has a specific plan for your life as well.
