Business Manager’s Report:  November 2022

As many of you know, I began in the office of Business Manager at the ministry in Texarkana on October 13th. I wish to express my appreciation to Bro. Dean Grigsby for his work in the past, to Bro Wayne Sewell who has kindly been someone I could call at any time, the SS committee for their love and involvement in the work, Bro. Mark Clements for his help, friendship and encouragement, and the wonderful employees. All these folk have made my entrance much easier.

The Bogard Press and Bookstore in Texarkana are in good condition. The financials are sound and stable. The workforce is at near full capacity. The operations are either on schedule or near to schedule. These facts describe normal and healthy operations.

As I entered the office, as with any ministry, there were challenges. We had empty slots in our workforce, but through prayer, God provided new employees who well filled those slots in a way that only God could have done. Also, there was a serious need for updating ministry vehicles. We traded in two of our old wore out vehicles for one newer vehicle and made other changes in the way we use the vehicles so that the vehicle circumstances now are good. Also, due to a lack of personnel and other issues, some of our operations had fallen behind schedule. However, through encouragement and a few changes, those operations are almost caught up. Just recently, a supervisor told me she was very proud of her department because they had completed and caught up on some work “faster than she had ever seen.” Through making other changes, other departments also have recently caught-up on their work. I am very proud of our employees and consider it a privilege to work along side of them. There remain some issues with operations and with the building and grounds as our facilities are aging, but God being in control, He will surely meet those needs.

Again, let me say that the state of the ministry at Texarkana is good. Please pray for us as we continue in this great work of serving and helping the churches of the American Baptist Association in fulfilling the great commission.

Thank you, Bro. Jim Crain
